About Amy Bregar, MD
Amy Bregar, MD, is a board-certified Gynecologic Oncologist at Massachusetts General Hospital who specializes in the surgical and multidisciplinary care of women with ovarian, uterine, cervical, vulvar, and vaginal cancers. She has a particular expertise in minimally invasive surgery, complex cytoreductive surgery for ovarian cancer, hereditary gynecologic cancer syndromes, and cancer prevention. Dr. Bregar believes every woman deserves access to exceptional, compassionate gynecologic cancer care, whether at Massachusetts General Hospital or within the Mass General Brigham community network. She believes the best care begins with listening and values building long-term relationships with patients, helping them navigate every stage of their cancer journey with confidence and compassion. She is committed to ensuring that every patient understands her diagnosis and treatment options and has access to the latest advances in clinical trials and precision medicine.
In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Bregar serves in executive leadership as the Associate Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Medical Affairs at MGB Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, where she provides executive leadership for quality, patient safety, and physician engagement. She also serves as Surgical Clinical Director for the Gynecologic Oncology Program at the Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute and is an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Biology at Harvard Medical School. She previously served as Acting Chief of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology and Program Director of the Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. Throughout her career, she has been dedicated to expanding access to outstanding gynecologic cancer care, advancing research, and educating the next generation of physician leaders.
Dr. Bregar leads a translational research program focused on improving the early detection of ovarian cancer through the development of novel molecular and proteomic biomarkers. Her research is supported by the National Cancer Institute and national foundations dedicated to advancing women's cancer research. She also leads and participates in multicenter clinical trials evaluating innovative diagnostics and treatments for women with gynecologic cancers. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, presents her research at national scientific meetings, and serves on the Foundation for Women's Cancer Scientific Advisory Committee, a national committee that helps guide research priorities and scientific initiatives in gynecologic oncology. Dr. Bregar is passionate about medical education and has received numerous teaching honors, including the national APGO/CREOG Excellence in Teaching Award.
Dr. Bregar earned her undergraduate degree from Princeton University and her medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island/Brown University before completing a fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital. She was recognized as a Boston Magazine Top Doctor in 2026.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Bregar enjoys spending time with her husband and their three children, running, reading, and exploring New England.
