About Haylee Borgstrom, MD

Dr. Haylee Borgstrom is a sports medicine physiatrist who specializes in non-surgical treatment of sports and musculoskeletal injuries. As a former athlete herself, she values teamwork - frequently collaborating with coaches, athletic trainers, physical therapists, surgeons and other allied health professionals in order to return athletes to the activities they love as quickly and safely as possible. Additionally, she understands the high physical demands of recovering from injury and is committed to evidence-based care to optimize injury prevention, treatment, and performance.

Dr. Borgstrom received her bachelor’s degree in Exercise Biology, master’s degree in Exercise Science & Biomechanics, and medical degree from the University of California, Davis, where she also competed on the Division I women’s basketball team as team captain. She completed her Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) residency at Harvard Medical School/Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, where she served as chief resident. Following residency, she completed a fellowship in PM&R Sports Medicine at Harvard/Spaulding.

Dr. Borgstrom is board-certified in both PM&R and Sports Medicine. She is a clinical instructor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School. She has trained with US Paralympics Track & Field (Athletics) as a medical classifier.

Her clinical and research interests include all aspects of non-surgical sports and musculoskeletal medicine, including diagnosis, management, and prevention of bone, joint, tendon, ligament, and muscle injuries, acute and chronic/overuse injuries, diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal ultrasound, ultrasound-guided joint and soft tissue injections, and orthobiologic/regenerative treatment options, including PRP (platelet rich plasma) injections. Additionally, she is interested in the influence of gender and disability in sport.

Research

Dr. Borgstrom's clinical research interests include sports and overuse injuries with an emphasis on the effects of anatomy and biomechanics in female and adaptive sport athletes. Additional research interests include orthobiologic injections and regenerative medicine.
