Massachusetts General Hospital’s exceptional reputation has been built and sustained by transferring knowledge from one generation to the next.

Education is about investing in the people at Mass General to make sure they have the knowledge, information, confidence, and support necessary to excel in patient care. However, contributing to education has an exponential effect that extends far beyond Mass General as alumni take lessons learned throughout the world. Our vision is to transform the entire healthcare workforce to optimize patient care.

Our Fundraising Needs

To establish The Academy at MGH with the goal of becoming the worldwide model for interprofessional healthcare education and scholarship. This would provide resources and programs to:
  • Invigorate educators by providing tools to help providers be more effective teachers and creating new endowments/education chairs in each department to support teachers in dedicating professional time and effort towards teaching.
  • Transform the learner experience through innovation grants to generate and test new models of education, efforts to break down siloes in training, facilitation of interprofessional learning and practice and ramping up the use of simulation and deliberate practice
  • Evaluate educational effectiveness by supporting a Center for Educational Innovation and Scholarship to support faculty investigators interested in careers in educational research. This includes an Education Scholars Program to provide protected time and funding to promising investigators and ideas, investigator training and mentorship, and core education research resources that are shared across projects

To construct the MGH Safe Learning Hospital, which would become a destination for healthcare teams throughout MGH and the world to train together using virtual, simulated, cadaveric, or actor-patients to model, debrief and improve collaborative care delivery.
