New England Patriots wide receiver Chris Hogan made a surprise appearance during the annual Nurses Week address by Jeanette Ives Erickson, RN, chief nurse and senior vice president of Patient Care Services.

Hogan thanked nursing staff for all they do every day for their patients and families. He also acknowledged that – while MGH nurses are “simply the best” – the Patriots organization wanted to ensure Ives Erickson dressed the part. Hogan presented her with a personalized New England Patriots game shirt, emblazoned with No. 20, in honor of her 20 years as chief nurse at the MGH. Without skipping a beat, she put on the jersey and wore it as she delivered the remainder of her remarks.

Over the course of the week, lectures and sessions were hosted to celebrate national Nurses Week and the dedicated nursing staff at the MGH. Events each day were focused on themes of quality and safety, education and research, leadership and experience in the field.
