Massachusetts General Hospital has received a transformational gift of $100 million from entrepreneur, philanthropist, and proud Bostonian, Herb Chambers in support of a new state-of-the-art building designed to meet the growing demand for world-class cancer care.
MGH neighbor and West End staple, The West End Museum, is once again open to the public this summer after being closed for more than two years because of a burst pipe. The newly renovated and reimagined space formally reopened in May.
Opened in 2011, the Lunder dock is the largest – and busiest – of Mass General’s three receiving areas. Others are located at the Yawkey and Jackson Buildings. The Jackson Building dock was the hospital’s first loading dock and is still operational with two bays available for delivery trucks.
Mass General Brigham has the unique ability to make significant economic and social impacts in greater Boston. One way it does so is through the Anchor Program – championed by the MGB Board of Trustees – aimed at breaking down barriers to systemic change by creating more opportunities and promoting racial, gender and economic equality.
Beginning in May 2023, the first pieces of the Phillip and Susan Ragon Building at Massachusetts General Hospital were put in place with the construction of a slurry wall.
Recent visitors were treated to a new view of the Bulfinch Building at Mass General by peering through a scanning electron microscope to see things at an extraordinary detail.
In 1811, the founders of the MGH had a dream: to construct a hospital to provide round-the-clock, state-of-the-art health care and support medical education. To make this lofty vision a reality, they launched a fundraising campaign, bringing in gifts from 25 cents to $20,000 – and even accepted one donation in the form of a 273-pound sow.
