The McCance Center team continues to push the boundaries of dementia research. Our recent paper in Alzheimer’s & Dementia highlights the discovery of 16 novel Alzheimer's disease susceptibility genes. A paper published in Neuron by McCance-affiliated faculty illustrates the use of AI to target new ways of treating AD, including validation of AI drug predictions in our Alzheimer’s-in-a-dish TM model. Click here to learn more.
McCance Center affiliated faculty also recently published a paper in Neurology, which found that women with a higher McCance Brain Care Score (BCS) – a score that measures physical, lifestyle, and social-emotional factors – have a lower risk of experiencing a stroke or other cerebrovascular event, reducing blood flow to the brain. The journal, Nature recently published The History of Alzheimer’s Disease, with a timeline from 1906 – 2024. Three key discoveries from McCance Center Director Dr. Rudy Tanzi’s lab are featured in the chronology in 1987,1995 and 2008.
A randomized three-year clinical trial recently released shows fish oil high in omega-3 fatty acids provides statistically significant benefit for those genetically predisposed to Alzheimer’s. McCance Center’s Dr. Gene Bowman is senior corresponding author.
