About Darlene Sawicki, MSN, NP-BC

Darlene Sawicki, MSN, NP-BC, is Director of Advanced Practice Providers (APP) for Massachusetts General Hospital. In this role, she is accountable for advancing APP clinical practice, policy and community at Mass General. In addition, Darlene continues to practice in the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) clinic.

Since joining Mass General in 2005, Darlene has assumed various leadership, clinical and research roles, most recently serving as Co-Director of the ALS clinic and Nurse Director for Ambulatory Neurology. As the inaugural Nurse Director for Ambulatory Neurology, Darlene built the neurology nursing community and worked with registered nurses and providers to work at top of scope and be empowered to engage in advocacy.

Her professional interests include: addressing caregiver fatigue, multidisciplinary practice/approach, advocacy, and staff empowerment. She recently completed Harvard’s Palliative Care Education Series and Practice and is currently teaching serious illness discussions to her colleagues. Darlene has presented and lectured locally, nationally and internationally on various research and clinical topics. She has been presented several awards and is currently a member of Organization of Nurse Leaders, American College of Nurse Practitioners. She founded and previously chaired the Research Nurse Committee for the North East ALS Consortium.

Darlene earned her Bachelor of Arts from Seattle Pacific University, Nursing degree through Lawrence Memorial/Regis College, and Masters of Nursing Science in Adult Health at Boston College.
