G. William Dec, MD, is the Roman DeSanctis Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Chief (Emeritus) of the Division of Cardiology at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr. Dec’s research interests have focused upon the diagnosis and treatment of dilated cardiomyopathy, myocarditis, advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation management. He has been actively involved in the development of consensus guidelines on heart failure treatment as a member of the Heart Failure Society of America’s Guidelines Committee.
Dr. Dec has edited three textbooks in his fields of expertise: Cardiac Allograft Rejection (2001); Heart Failure: A Comprehensive Guide to Diagnosis and Management (2005) and Heart Failure Clinics of America: Update on Myocarditis Diagnosis and Treatment (2005).
He has served as site Principal Investigator for over 50 randomized clinical trials during the past 15 years and has published over 275 original articles, chapters, reviews and practice guideline documents. He has mentored over two dozen fellows who have pursued academic careers in cardiovascular medicine including several current national division chiefs or departmental chairs.
He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation, the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and the Journal of Cardiac Failure. Dr. Dec is also an Associate Editor for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and is Chairman-elect of the American Board of Internal Medicine Cardiovascular Committee.
