While the mpox (or monkeypox) virus has been around in African countries for many years, it appeared around the globe in 2022 and the World Health Organization declared it a “public health emergency of international concern." The focus of this Massachusetts General Hospital Blum Center presentation from December 13, 2022, is on mpox virus transmission, signs and symptoms, care of the skin during and after infection, and treatment options. Additionally, Esther Freeman, MD, PhD, and Alexis Strahan, MSN, FNP-C, discuss methods in place, highlighting an MGH-associated registry, to capture information on mpox cases in order to improve our understanding of the disease process.

This program is a collaboration between the Maxwell & Eleanor Blum Patient and Family Learning Center and Department of Dermatology at Mass General.
