The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the delivery of mental and emotional health care. In addition, there is increasing evidence of a sudden need for mental and behavioral health care because of the pandemic. As a result, there has been a quick expansion of telemental health where counseling and support are offered online or over the phone. In this recent Blum Center presentation, Jennifer Blewett, DSW, LICSW, provides an overview of telemental health services. Blewett, a licensed clinical social worker and the clinical care coordinator at Massachusetts General Hospital's West End Clinic, also discusses how virtual services are safe, effective and have similar outcomes compared to in-person services.
