In 2013, a research team led by Dr. Jennifer Temel, Clinical Director of Thoracic Oncology at Mass General Cancer Center, developed an innovative model of care to move palliative care to an outpatient setting. Because this model was shown to be so effective, it’s now standard of care for all patients diagnosed with a serious cancer to receive care from both an oncologist and a palliative care clinician.
