Virtual Visits

A virtual visit allows you to connect face-to-face with doctors at Mass General through a computer, tablet or smartphone.

Written Second Opinion

Written second opinions happen online and through writing. This allows our doctors to provide you with highly detailed answers to very specific medical questions and conditions.

In-person Visits

In-person visits are the traditional face-to-face visits you are used to, now with enhanced safety protocols.

If you are not able or ready to travel to the U.S., these virtual care options allow you to:

  • Understand how Mass General might approach your care
  • Ask key questions about your care
  • Meet with some of the world’s leading experts in your condition from the comfort of your home
  • Receive a formal, written second opinion
  • If medically appropriate, conduct follow-up care virtually after your onsite appointments to reduce the need for travel

Due to differences in each country’s laws and regulations, not all virtual care options are available in every situation, and our International Patient Center can help guide you to the virtual care options that are right for you. Please email us your request and our team will reply within 24 hours Monday through Friday.

Virtual Visits

A virtual visit allows you to connect face-to-face with doctors at Mass General, who are Harvard Medical School professors and leaders in their field. These virtual visits are secure, live, video-based visits with the medical teams who would lead your care. This visit can be conducted through a computer, tablet or smartphone.

Virtual visits are not exactly the same as sitting with your doctors in-person here in Boston, but it is perhaps the next best thing. You’ll have the same world-class Mass General team at your disposal, and together work through your questions and provide you with options or a plan for next steps in your care – whether that care is in Boston or your home country. For some patients, virtual visits can help you learn about clinical trials or cutting-edge treatments available at Mass General that are often rarely available outside our organization.

Written Second Opinion

Unlike virtual visits, which are live real-time conversations with Mass General doctors, written second opinions happen online and through writing. This allows our doctors to provide you with highly detailed answers to very specific medical questions and conditions.

With second opinions, our team will help you upload your detailed request, medical records and imaging to our secure online platform. Then Mass General doctors hand-picked for your specific care will review and write a formal and full medical opinion on your condition and, if requested, thoughts on your treatment plan. These written second opinions can confirm and reassure you regarding a challenging diagnosis, provide answers to patients who are not feeling satisfied with the care they’re currently receiving, or help you plan the most appropriate course of treatment. For some patients, written second opinions can help you learn about clinical trials or cutting-edge treatments available at Mass General that are often rarely available outside our organization.
