"As one of the few Cambodian residents and now attendings at Mass General, CDI has been an invaluable resource for me. CDI has enhanced my experience by helping me make personal connections to other URM trainees and faculty in the larger community, and providing me with opportunities to serve the community. I now work as a primary care attending in the Revere Health Center, where I serve a diverse patient population. Retention Initiatives

CDI has worked closely with many departments to design mentorship and career development programs for URM housestaff during their training at MGH. CDI also sponsors welcoming receptions and networking events to help build a sense of community within MGH. CDI has a staff person - a manager of trainee affairs - dedicated to providing career guidance to residents and fellows while at MGH.

  • The Residents and Fellows Committee (RFC) is another resource that plays a crucial role in the life of URM residents and fellows at MGH. The RFC offers opportunities to socialize and network among peers, enhance career development, and become involved in the larger Harvard and Boston communities.
  • Career Development Liaison Program (CDLP) was created by the Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) as part of a continuing effort to support residents in their transition from student to MGH trainee. The goals of the program are to provide guidance, as well as well as to help advance the career development of URM trainees.

  • HMS Office for Diversity and Community Partnership (ODCP) The Office for Diversity and Community Partnership at Harvard Medical School was created to promote increased recruitment, retention and advancement of diverse faculty, particularly underrepresented minority faculty, at Harvard Medical School and to oversee all diversity activities involving Harvard Medical School faculty, trainees, students and staff.
