Grand Rounds: Dementia Comes to Parkinson Disease

In a Grand Rounds presentation titled "Dementia Comes to Parkinson Disease," Dr. Growdon discussed a series of studies examining why patients with Parkinson disease often have both motor symptoms and cognitive problems, often progressing to a full dementia. Over a decade of studies show that there is a remarkable convergence of disease pathologies overlapping classical Alzheimer disease changes with Parkinson’s disease as well. These studies suggest new approaches to therapy for Parkinson disease related cognitive symptoms.
