The MGH has relaunched its community fundraising program.

Now known as BeCause: The Mass General Fundraising Community, this group of friends and supporters raise funds to support the hospital by organizing and participating in events, social gatherings and online campaigns. Last year, the MGH fundraising community raised more than $4 million.

BeCause features a social fundraising website and online toolkit for fundraisers to share their stories. Every dollar raised goes directly to the cause of their choice. From cancer care to autism awareness, MGH patients, their families, friends and caregivers have been inspired by their experiences at the MGH and are motivated to take action.

These supporters include Bob Forlenza, a Boston-area investment executive. For the past 17 years, Forlenza has organized The Full Court Charity Challenge basketball tournament to support the Lurie Center for Autism at MassGeneral Hospital for Children, where his son is a patient. The event has raised nearly $1.5 million.
