During the month of January, the MGH Revere HealthCare Center offered parent-child Zumba classes every Tuesday. The hour-long group was offered to MGH Revere patients and community members at no cost, and was led by Jeanette Velez, director of the Chelsea-Revere Family Network. Some moms chose to participate holding their young children and other kids decided to dance alongside the group. Childcare was offered for children that were too young to participate. In total, 11 moms and 13 kids (ages 0-5) attended the classes.
“Our intent behind starting the group was to offer a space and time for moms to engage in physical activity while also having fun and relaxing,” says Grace Schierberl, Behavioral Health Outreach coordinator and parent educator at MGH Revere. “We are hoping to offer the classes again in the spring.”
