Sarah Abernethy Oo, MSW
Senior Director for Community Health Improvement at the Mass General Chelsea HealthCare Center
Throughout my career, I have been blessed to work alongside amazingly strong women. From home visiting in Central Harlem, teaching in Northern Thailand, advocating and counselling at a shelter for survivors of sex trafficking in Tokyo, Japan, to working on comprehensive public health in remote villages in Bangladesh. Now I’m leading a vibrant team of community health workers in Chelsea, providing access to care and addressing social determinants of health with newly arrived immigrants and refugees.
I have been touched and continue to be deeply moved by the resilience and hopefulness of all the women whom I have worked with—even in the midst of and transcending out of enormous pain. I honor these women during Women’s History Month and am thankful to all who continue to inspire me each and every day.
