This pre-operative class is designed for patients undergoing elective spinal surgery with the Orthopaedic Spine Center.
It is broken into three sections:
What to expect prior to surgery and how to prepare
What to expect while in the hospital
What to expect when you are discharged from the hospital
Spinal precautions following spine surgery
Following spine surgery, there are certain precautions to aide in your healing. These precautions include: No bending, lifting > 5 lbs, twisting for 6 weeks after surgery. It is helpful to avoid laying or sitting in one position for more than 30-40 minutes at a time. Mobility and frequent repositioning helps to decreasing pain. Incorporate these precautions into all mobility after surgery, including getting out of bed, as you resume your daily activities.
