About Jim Lund, PharmD, MS, BCSCP

Jim Lund, PharmD, MS, BCSCP, is the director of pharmacy operations, departmental strategy and innovation at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Lund is responsible for the operations of the hospital’s central pharmacy distribution systems, sterile and non-sterile compounding areas and perioperative pharmacy services. Additionally, he is focused on the department’s strategic planning efforts and is working to influence innovation efforts to advance pharmacy services and enhance patient care.

Since joining the team at Mass General, Dr. Lund has worked to improve the department’s accountability in the medication-use process and has guided numerous renovation projects and the implementation of advanced automation systems throughout the distribution areas, realizing gains in safety, efficiency and reliability across the Mass General pharmacy operations.

Prior to his time at Mass General, Dr. Lund served as the manager of pharmacy operations at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, as well as the Medication Safety Office at UW Health. Additionally, he was previously the assistant director of pharmacy operations at the University of Chicago Medical Center. Dr. Lund earned his doctor of pharmacy and master of sciences degree in health system pharmacy administration from the University of Wisconsin. He completed his PGY-1 and PGY-2 Health System Pharmacy Administration residency training at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison, WI. He is a Board-certified Sterile Compounding Pharmacist.

Dr. Lund's practice interests include the use of automation and technology to enhance patient safety and efficiency of pharmacy operations, strategic planning, leadership development, pharmacy technician practice advancement and pharmacy facility planning. He is an active member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the Massachusetts Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the Vizient Pharmacy Council and the Medication Safety Officers Society.
