What should I do if I have a medical emergency during off hours?
If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911. IMA patients who require urgent attention after hours may call their primary care physician’s office and dial 1 to speak with the doctor on call. Do not contact the practice through email or Partners Patient Gateway in an emergency situation.How do I make an appointment with my doctor?
You may schedule an appointment with your doctor in the following ways:
- During checkout at the time of your appointment
- By calling your doctor's office
- By sending a message through Partners Patient Gateway

Which doctor is an expert at taking care of a special diagnosis?
Your primary care physician (PCP) is the best resource to recommend experts in your condition or disease. Consult with your PCP, who will provide you with the guidance you need.
What can I expect and how should I prepare for my first visit with my new physician?
You will be asked to complete a new patient questionnaire prior to your visit. This may take at least 15 minutes to complete. Your doctor will review it with you at the same time as reviewing your medical history. Typically an initial visit lasts about 45 minutes.
Our pre-visit checklist includes:
- Your provider's name, his/her office address and the time of your appointment
- Your family medical history, including parents, brothers and sisters, grandparents, direct aunts and uncles
- You can bring someone with you to the appointment
- Translators are available. Please let us know if you need one at the time you make the appointment
- A list of your medicines or all your medicine bottles
- Any old medical records. If you don't know which ones to bring, your doctor may help to direct you
- Make a short list of any questions or concerns you would like addressed during your visit. If any are particularly serious or if you have more than one or two, your doctor may ask you to return for another visit.

What can I do to organize my health care?
- Keep track of your appointments, and arrive 15 minutes early and be prepared
- Make sure that the hospital has your updated phone number, address and emergency contact information
- Keep a list of your medicines in your wallet
- Assign a health care proxy, or someone to make your care decisions when or if you are unable
What insurance do you accept?
Internal Medicine Associates accepts most insurance plans that have contracts with the hospital to provide primary care. Please consult the Mass General billing site for more information or check with your insurance carrier to be certain that your care provider is an accepted physician.
