About Susan Himes, PhD

Dr. Susan Himes is a clinical research psychologist with dual appointments in the Department of Psychiatry and the Weight Center at Massachusetts General Hospital and is an Instructor at Harvard Medical School.  She received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology with a specialization in eating disorders at the University of South Florida.  She completed her internship at Temple Health Sciences Center and the Temple Center for Obesity Research and Education, followed by a clinical postdoctoral fellowship in health psychology specializing in psychological and behavioral treatment for obesity and bariatric surgery at the Mayo Clinic.  She completed a 1 year NIH investigator funded research fellowship at the Weight Control and Diabetes Research Center at the Miriam Hospital and Brown University, followed by a clinical staff psychologist position at the Rhode Island Hospital and Brown Medical School where she became Assistant Clinical Professor.

Research

Dr. Himes research interests include the incorporation of treatments for mood and emotional dysregulation in behavioral weight management approaches; interventions to treat disordered eating, weight regain, and complications in the bariatric population;  studying the relationship between binge eating and depression; and interventions to improve behavioral adherence and weight maintenance in bariatric patients.
