About the Tailoring Interventions for Patient Safety (TIPS) Program

Falls are one of the most common adverse events among hospitalized patients. Falls take a physical and emotional toll on patients, families and staff.

In February 2018, Mass General Patient Care Services implemented the Tailoring Interventions for Patient Safety (TIPS) Program, an evidence-based prevention program that has demonstrated a significant reduction in patient falls. Nurses complete the bedside Fall TIPS poster with the patient and family, so they understand risks and associated interventions linked to fall prevention. The poster functions as a communication tool for members of the care team, patient and family.

Patient falls and falls with injury rates have been at or below the national benchmarks and continue to trend downward since implementation of the Fall TIPS Program.
