Surgical Residency Program

The residency program is designed to attract the best possible individuals and to train them through clinical exposure and through formal and informal conferences to be outstanding clinical surgeons.

Advanced Surgery Clerkship Program

This program is designed to assign students to a surgical team and mentor. This program is intended for students who are interested in pursuing a career in surgery.

Surgical Education and Simulation Research Fellowship

This fellowship program includes formal training in principles and methods of surgical education and research.

Burn Care

The Burns Center offers an Acute and Reconstructive Burn Fellowship, which is designed to provide fellows with a broad exposure to all aspects of burn care, including acute care and reconstruction.

The Division of Cardiac Surgery offers an Adult Cardiac Surgery Fellowship, designed for fellows to become experienced in the oversight of a complex service with primary responsibility for the evaluation of emergency cases at night, both in the emergency room and in the catheterization lab.

Opportunites for Continued Development

Academic Career Development Seminars

The Department of Surgery's Academic Career Development Seminars cover key topics that encompass an academic surgeon's career trajectory. Every seminar is either presented by a notable academic surgeon in the department or an outside expert in the field. The seminars take place virtually and are recorded for those who are unable to attend live.

All interested faculty members and students are welcome to attend the seminars. They are held on the third Tuesday of every month from 5-6 pm.

Surgical Investigator Club

Surgeons directly impact a patient’s outcome through their clinical acumen and skill. Investigator's directly impact the lives of patients around the world through their discoveries. To invigorate academic and research interaction between residents and faculty, among clinical and non-clinical investigators, the Mass General Department of Surgery hosts a Surgical Investigator Club. Meetings take place virtually on the second Tuesday of every month from 5-6 pm.
