Celebrating Orthopedic Nurse Practitioners
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery recognizes its dedicated team of 23 Nurse Practitioners (NPs) during National Nurse Practitioner Week. NPs play an integral and multi-faceted role within the department: they prepare patients for surgery, educate patients and their families, collaborate across the hospital to coordinate care and run independent clinics for improved access..
As Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), a clinical team that includes both NPs and Physician Assistants (PAs), NPs are a group of licensed professionals who leverage their clinical expertise, leadership skills and problem-solving abilities to help patients navigate the health care system.
The Director of the Department's APP team, Anne Fiore, DNP, herself an NP, explains, "With a global patient population that continues to grow and live longer, we need caring, qualified people on the front lines of care who are willing and able to guide and advocate for patients. Our NPs are just that; they ensure each and every patient receives the equitable, high-quality, compassionate care they deserve throughout their health journey."
NP Week was started in 2004 by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) to to celebrate the importance of nurse practitioners.
