As part of the Department of Surgery’s Wellness Program, we aim to improve the physical and mental health of our surgeons, reduce administrative burden, foster community and connection, and provide coaching opportunities. We achieve this through sustainable initiatives that serve to increase resilience, career satisfaction, joy in medicine and, overall, reduce the risk of burn-out.

As part of our Wellness Program, we offer the following services:

  • 1:1 coaching: executive, leadership, organizational, and lifestyle
  • Group coaching for sections and divisions
  • Lectures and workshops from leading experts in psychological safely, organizational methods, and communication
  • Resident and staff group events, e.g., run/walk events, book clubs, sports, and outdoor activities
  • Support with accessing the Restore with Lifestyle Medicine Program offered by the Mass General Physicians Organization
  • Wellness videos based on lifestyle medicine which reviewed tips and strategies for healthy living for busy surgeons
