Overview
This National Institutes of Health (NIH)-supported research fellowship is sponsored jointly by the Departments of Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at Harvard Medical School. This fellowship supports positions in one of four different research tracks:
- Basic science
- Clinical research, outcomes and health services
- Surgical technology and innovation
- Surgical education
Requirements
Opportunities are open to current or recently graduated residents in accredited U.S. or Canadian surgical training programs. Fellowship appointment requires U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status. Applications from members of under-represented minorities are strongly encouraged.

The call for applications is currently open. Applications are due by March 4, 2022.
Candidates need to be mentored by one of our faculty preceptors and should send:
- A brief project description (one page)
- Their CV
- A letter of support from their mentor(s)
