Which Feelings Might My Child Have After a Diabetes Diagnosis?

There are many feelings your child might have after a diabetes diagnosis. These feelings are normal. There is no right or wrong way to feel. You or other family members might have these feelings as well.

These feelings include:

  • Anger
  • Sadness
  • Confusion
  • Feeling overwhelmed
  • Fear
  • Guilt
  • Hopelessness

The care team can help your child, you or your family cope with these feelings in a healthy way. Everyone affected by a diabetes diagnosis expresses these feelings differently and at different times. Showing those feelings, fears and experiences is a key step toward living a new way of life.
