Research in subarachnoid hemorrhage focuses on the treatment and recovery after a cerebral aneurysm unexpectedly bursts.

Subarachnoid hemorrhage affects younger patients who are often otherwise healthy. Brain aneurysms are a silent disease until they cause subarachnoid hemorrhage. Some of the questions our faculty address include:

  • What neurophysiologic and blood markers can predict delayed cerebral ischemia?
  • What neuroinflammatory pathways lead to additional injury and are targets for improving recovery?
  • What are the mechanisms of neurocognitive decline after subarachnoid hemorrhage?
