International Geriatric Fracture Society certification seal

The International Geriatric Fracture Society (IGFS) awarded Massachusetts General Hospital with a Premier Level CORE certification. This recognition emphasizes the collaboration between the Orthopaedic Trauma Service and the Geriatric Inpatient Fracture Service (GIFTS) and highlights Mass General’s commitment to excellence in meeting and exceeding various quality metrics in the care of older adults experiencing hip fractures.

IGFS is a global initiative that is working to bring “collaboration and distribution of proven principles and protocols for the treatment of geriatric fractures.”

This certification is a testament to the years of dedicated interprofessional collaboration among key disciplines, including Geriatric Medicine, Orthopedic Trauma, Anesthesiology, Nursing, Physical Therapy and numerous other services. These groups have worked together to provide comprehensive, compassionate care tailored to the unique needs of geriatric patients with hip fractures.

Esteban Franco-Garcia, MD, Director of the GIFTS Program, said of the certification, “The recognition by the IGSF underscores the high standards we strive to uphold in every aspect of our service. From pre-operative assessment to post-operative rehabilitation, Orthopedic Trauma and GIFTS have consistently prioritized patient-centered care, evidence-based practices and innovative approaches to improve outcomes for older adults.”
