Don's Story: How Dr. Fogel and the Orthopaedic Spine Center got Don back to golfing, biking, hiking and enjoying time with this grandchildren.
Condition: Spinal Stenosis
Interests: golfing, biking, hiking & travel
"When I moved to Hingham seven years ago from the Chicago area, I established myself as a patient at Mass General. After experiencing ongoing pain in my lower back and quads, my primary care physicians recommended physical therapy and over-the-counter pain medication. When that did not achieve the desired results, Dr. Khetarpal referred me to Dr. Harold Fogel, an orthopedic surgeon within their extended Mass General group.
An appointment with Dr. Fogel was easily scheduled. My wife and I met with Dr. Fogel for a consultation. We had a thorough conversation including his review of my records. Dr. Fogel recommended an MRI, which was quickly scheduled by his office. After his review of the MRI, a follow-up appointment was scheduled. Dr. Fogel gave me the results, his observations, and options available to me. When asked, he gave me his recommendation for surgery. Following his advice, I scheduled a laminectomy. Dr. Fogel was very responsive to my pain and saw that surgery was booked as promptly as possible.
I am delighted to report that the surgery was a huge success, and I am back to playing golf regularly, biking and hiking, all pain free. Dr. Fogel has an outstanding, professional manner. He is a terrific listener and a thoughtful communicator. He answered all my questions and provided useful insights with his diagnosis, treatment recommendations and post-surgery expectations. Dr. Fogel’s follow-up was attentive, informative and confidence-building. He has my complete confidence, and I recommend him without any hesitation."
