Thank you for your interest in learning more about social work at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Our social workers understand the impact of illness and related challenges on patients’ and their loved ones’ lives. Our experienced and caring clinicians help people address challenges, strengthen their coping skills and heal from painful experiences. We also assist patients in communicating meaningfully with their health care teams and gaining access to hospital and community resources.
To Refer
Social workers cover all inpatient units and many outpatient clinics. Patients and families can ask their health care team for a referral.
Community health care professionals can refer an inpatient by calling 617-726-2643. Please see Service Areas & Programs for program descriptions.
