Dr. Natalia Rost is MGH Stroke Division Chief and Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Rost received her M.D. from Boston University School of Medicine cum laude and completed her Internship in Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (2003), and Residency in Neurology (2006) as well as Fellowship in Vascular and Critical Care Neurology at the Massachusetts General Hospital/Brigham and Women's Hospital (2007).  Dr. Rost is a diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and the American Heart Association (AHA).

Dr. Rost is internationally recognized for her expertise in vascular neurology, neuroimaging of cerebrovascular disease, and big-data science applications to personalized clinical outcome prediction in acute stroke. Her research program has been continuously funded by the foundations including National Stroke Association and Bugher Foundation, the NIH/NINDS and the innovative collaboratives such as the MGB-MIT AI Cures. 

Dr. Rost is the 2019-2024 Samana Cay MGH Research Scholar and the author of numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, a co-author of the "Massachusetts General Hospital Handbook of Neurology," and the Medical Editor of the Harvard Medical School's Special Health Report on Stroke. 

Dr. Rost's professional career path is continuously inspired by her daily involvement in care of patients with acute stroke and her patient and public engagement work.  She is the recipient of the 2012 Michael S. Pessin Stroke Leadership Award from the AAN and a former President of the Boston AHA Board (2014-2016).  Among her professional accomplishments, Dr. Rost is particularly proud of her career-long engagement with the AAN, where she currently serves as President Elect and Vice Chair of the Brain Health Committee, including her key leadership role in the AAN’s Brain Health Initiative.

Research

Dr. Rost dedicated her professional career to clinical care of stroke patients and reducing the burden of post-stroke disability through creative approaches to clinical investigation.  Her research interests and expertise are in the field of neuroimaging of cerebrovascular disease, genetics and genomics of stroke, and outcome prediction in patients with acute stroke. Dr. Rost has received her Master of Public Health degree from the Harvard School of Public Health in 2011
