Veterinarians from the Mass General Center for Comparative Medicine (Virtual Vivarium) comprise a component of the faculty of the Mass General Department of Pathology. The scope of their work encompasses comparative hematopathology, pathogenesis, and translational medicine of opportunistic infections, while providing postdoctoral training in comparative pathology. Nationally, post-DVM training in veterinary anatomic and/or clinical pathology is overseen by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP), an organization of board-certified scientists established in 1949 to promote excellence in veterinary pathology (www.acvp.org). The ACVP requires post-DVM training and expertise, with certifying examinations recognized by the American Board of Veterinary Specialties of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
