Clinical Services Overview

Clinical Services provides clinical and anatomic pathology services around the clock, every day of the year. Our physicians, technologists, administrators and other staff strive to make accurate diagnoses, which we communicate to treating physicians effectively and efficiently.

Clinical services are divided among Anatomic and Molecular Pathology, which are led by Vânia Nosé, MD, PhD, Associate Chief, Laboratory and Molecular Medicine which is led by Kent Lewandrowski, MD, and the Center for Integrated Diagnostics (CID) led by John Iafrate, MD, PhD. The majority of faculty members — nearly 100 — have activities in this Division, including several who also work in affiliated institutes (Massachusetts Eye & Ear, Shriner's Burns Institute and Cambridge Hospital).

Our service operates twenty-four hours a day, three-hundred and sixty-five days a year.

The Division oversees and coordinates the activities of the major clinical specialties listed below:

Anatomic & Molecular Pathology

Laboratories & Molecular Medicine

Center for Integrated Diagnostics (CID)

Clinical Services are supported by Laboratory Support Services (customer service, outpatient specimen collection and specimen transport).

The Pathology Laboratory Handbook provides test information, test algorithms, as well as specific policies and procedures for specimen collection and results reporting.

Regulatory Compliance

The Division coordinates all Regulatory Compliance activities for the Pathology Service and sites performing point of care tests.
