The Midwifery Service in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Massachusetts General Hospital is pleased to host a Meet the Midwives event for current and prospective patients. If you’re curious about selecting a midwife for your health care, join us to meet Mass General certified nurse-midwives (CNMs), learn about the care options they provide, and ask questions.

This free program for the community will be in-person, and live-streamed for all who would like to attend. Refreshments will be provided.

Melissa Nelson, MSN, CNM, WHNP-BC, chief midwife, Natalia S. Richey, CNM, MSN, associate chief midwife, and other midwives from the department will share information and answer questions.

Midwifery Care Since 1994

At Mass General, you can choose a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) to care for you throughout your low- or moderate-risk pregnancy and birth. Since 1994, our midwives have delivered 15,000 babies.

Health Care Across Your Lifetime

Our CNMs can provide care for you across your lifetime: family planning, pregnancy and postpartum, and well gynecology. Family planning care includes intrauterine devices (IUDs) and implant placements and removals, comprehensive contraception counseling, pregnancy options counseling and abortion care. Pregnancy and postpartum care includes prenatal visits, labor and delivery, postpartum and breastfeeding support. Gynecological care includes irregular bleeding, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) screening and treatment and menopause care.

Care in Your Community

Mass General midwives see patients for appointments on our main campus in Boston, at satellite locations in Danvers, Waltham, and at our health centers in Charlestown, Chelsea, and Revere. Labor and delivery occurs at Mass General in Boston.

Collaborative Care

One of the strengths of the Mass General Obstetrics Program is the strong and healthy collaborative relationship between the midwifery and OB physician teams. This team-based approach is vital to the care of pregnant patients at Mass General. Midwifery care fits well with the services provided by obstetrician/gynecologists, who are experts in high-risk pregnancies, medical complications and surgery.
